Thurgood Marshall YOUmedia is a thriving community of learners. Thurgood Marshall has a positive atmosphere that flourishes off of patience, love and respect. Jeffery Hodges, YOUmedia mentor, encourages YOUmedia teens to reflect on what's going on in their communities and create artifacts that will echo what they would like to see in their futures. The theme of the space is “Todays Learner's, Tomorrow's Innovators.” We primarily serve the Englewood/Auburn Gresham Chicagoland Community. This area has been plagued with much publicized negativity and Thurgood Marshall YOUmedia has been a safe haven for Englewood youth. We provide programming ranging from maker activities, creative writing and literacy projects, to science activities, coding, game design, podcasting, digital music and more. We are particularly famous for producing the YOUmedia Radio Podcast and YOUmedia TV broadcast, both can be found on Youtube, which features the teens' personalities and talents.
This video was prepared by former YOUmedia student, Brandon Towns. Brandon cultivated his skills at the Harold Washington Library Center YOUmedia space. He collaborated with Jeffery Hodges to create a video that highlights some of the things that Thurgood Marshall has to offer youth. Brandon Towns and Jeffery Hodges, mentor-student collaboration is a prime example of what YOUmedia is all about.
