The Mix at SFPL

As The Mix at SFPL approaches its 1st birthday, we’re celebrating our emergence as a free digital media learning lab, public library and living room for teens ages 13-18 in San Francisco with a virtual tour led by Chaz, a teen who comes to The Mix daily and really “owns it” by exemplifying the youth-driven nature of the space. As The Mix matures, the vibrant community of teens, Board of Advising Youth members and staff (youth mentors, librarians and other library staff) are feeling more comfortable making and experimenting, and this video is a great example of HOMAGO in action.

The film was conceived and produced in one afternoon by Jayraj Govender, a full time film student at San Francisco State University who since August 2015 has been working 15 hours a week at The Mix as one of four Youth Mentors who serve as programming assistants. Jayraj was inspired by the MTV Cribs series of celebrity ‘cribs’, and with his typical good humor Chaz was a willing participant in Jayraj’s film from conception to creation.
